Summit Connect Groups start with Rooted

Rooted is a 10-week small group experience designed to point participants toward God, connect us to the church, and shed light on our purpose as Jesus' followers. Rooted focuses on seven different rhythms, including daily devotion, prayer, repentance, serving, generosity, sharing your story, and worship.

Together, in a group of 10-15 people, we will explore God’s word, engage in prayer and service projects, share stories, and practice rhythms essential to a healthy spiritual life. Each of these spiritual disciplines can be found in the earliest descriptions of the church (the Book of Acts), and at Summit, we believe they’re still just as important for us today.

All of our Connect Groups launch through Rooted!

Starting Point

If you have questions or doubts about religion, God, Jesus, the Bible, or anything else really, joining a Starting Point group could be a great next step for you!

We want Summit to be a comfortable space for vulnerable conversations. That’s why these eight-week groups were intentionally designed as an entry point for anyone looking to discuss their questions in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.

Our next Starting Point groups will launch in September.

Join a Volunteer Team

If you’re stuck in a holding pattern, waiting for a Rooted Group to start, or your Connect Group is on hiatus, joining a volunteer team is always a great option to get plugged into the community at Summit. There are countless ways to come alongside one another in service: brewing coffee, running lights, caring for kids in Base Camp, and more!

Connect Events

A family board game night or a 20s and 30s casual kickball game can be great ways to meet people in the same place in life. We scatter Connect Events throughout the year to engage the broader Summit community, creating points of connection just like these.

Rooted FAQs

  • Rooted is an on-ramp to Connect Groups. We are also highly encouraging our long-standing Connect Groups to go through the Rooted curriculum as well.

  • Starting Point exists to provide a comfortable environment for those questioning or new to faith. We want Starting Point attendees to feel safe asking the hard questions as they explore what it might look like to follow Christ. Rooted is for believers who are ready to take the next step into Christ-centered community at Summit.

  • Upon signing up, you’ll be asked some guiding questions about the type of group you’d prefer. A substantial amount of prayer and thoughtfulness goes into creating groups that will provide the best experience for all people who attend. While we do our best to honor requests when possible, we cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to accommodate all friend or leader requests.

  • Summit will be providing childcare for Rooted Groups. Email Connect Director Dan Sherfield if you have questions about childcare for any of these events.

  • We understand that Rooted is a significant time commitment, but it is worth it to invest in the entire process. If you know you’re going to miss more than two meetings, we ask that you wait until the next session of Rooted. The ten weeks are a cumulative experience, and so we ask that every participant commit to honoring each other by being at every meeting.

  • Rooted is an adult-only curriculum (18+).

  • We offer Rooted classes twice a year—once in the fall and once in the spring. If the upcoming class has already started, we hope you’ll jump into the next one! Let us know [link to form] if you’d like to be notified when registration opens for the next class. If you missed it this time around, a great way to get further connected at Summit is by serving with one of our volunteer teams. Also, be on the lookout for upcoming events at Summit!

  • Rooted, originally titled Mizizi, which means "roots" in Swahili, was developed by Pastor Muriithi Wanjau of Mavuno Church in Nairobi, Kenya. Mariners Church in Irvine, California, eventually adopted the program and the curriculum is now becoming popular in the United States.
