Africa Sunday
Sunday, November 3rd, is Africa Sunday at Summit, a day dedicated to our global partnerships in Africa with organizations like I Care for the Nation, World Relief, and the Africa Windmill Project. In 2025, we have eight trips scheduled across three countries, and we’re inviting the whole congregation to engage in three ways: PRAY. SPONSOR. GO.
Summit has felt called to global service even before our first trip to Africa in 2006, where we saw the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa firsthand. Today, our focus remains on partnering with local leaders and organizations to create sustainable change, while remaining humble as cultural outsiders. Our goal is to support their efforts, learn, and work together to meet shared goals.
One way everyone can help is to PRAY.Prayer is the foundation of our global efforts. On Sunday, attendees will receive a 2025 Team Guide that includes specific prayers for our teams, partners, and the communities we will serve. With eight teams flying out in 2025, your prayers are crucial.
Prayer not only supports those going but also changes us, aligning our hearts with God’s work and expanding our sense of his love for the world. Imagine the impact of a church united in prayer for provision, guidance, and strength over the next year—strengthening our sense of purpose and unity!
We’re also going to be asking our congregation to SPONSOR.Sponsorship transforms lives by providing education, healthcare, and emotional support to children and families in need. At Summit, we sponsor children through I Care for the Nation (ICFTN), an organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, focused on supporting orphaned and vulnerable children.
ICFTN has grown over the years, and many of the kids we once sponsored are now teenagers preparing for adulthood. This is an opportunity for us to support their continued education and help them enter entrepreneurship programs that will shape their futures. Your generosity can make a lasting difference.
The last challenge we have is to GO.We know not everyone will be able to take this big step, but we want to encourage anyone able to consider it. It didn’t take long for us to realize the contributions we could make on a short trip would be minuscule in comparison to the work of our partners working year-round. Still, the lasting impact of our congregants bringing home stories of people worshiping in very different contexts and carrying a supernatural joy despite their meager estates continues to bless Summit immeasurably. If you are interested in learning more about our trips and partnership organizations, feel free to peruse our Serve Globally page.
