STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Jesus Carries the Cross
John 19:6, 15-17

Join us in a journey of reflection through The Stations of the Cross—a powerful practice that invites us to walk through the moments leading up to Jesus’ death.

We encourage you to pause for a moment and read through the following scripture and prayer.

John 19:6, 15-17 (NLT)

When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”

“Take him yourselves and crucify him,” Pilate said. “I find him not guilty.”

15 “Away with him,” they yelled. “Away with him! Crucify him!”

“What? Crucify your king?” Pilate asked.

“We have no king but Caesar,” the leading priests shouted back.

16 Then Pilate turned Jesus over to them to be crucified.

So they took Jesus away. 17 Carrying the cross by himself, he went to the place called Place of the Skull (in Hebrew, Golgotha).

Prayer

Dear Lord,

The life you led would inevitably lead you to the type of death you would experience, but not deserve. A life that told us we must bear our cross. A truth told by the one who would actually carry his own. That long and lonely walk to Calvary, already rife with toil and despair, but now accompanied by the very instrument that would stretch your body out for the sins of the world. Like you, may we continue on our journey towards our own death. May our sins and transgressions experience the same end.

Amen.

The prayer today was thoughtfully crafted by our Orlando Student Minister, Johnny Outing.

Take this prayer and meditate on it throughout the rest of the day.
