STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Jesus Meets His Mother
John 19:25-27

Join us in a journey of reflection through The Stations of the Cross—a powerful practice that invites us to walk through the moments leading up to Jesus’ death.

We encourage you to pause for a moment and read through the following scripture and prayer.

John 19:25-27 (NLT)

25 Standing near the cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary (the wife of Clopas), and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” 27 And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

The one who carried you must now watch you be carried away. How can we articulate the pain? For you are the savior of the world, and at one time, you were a young boy sitting at the feet of your mother. For you were the one who would eventually feed thousands, but it was your mother who fed you first. You were her baby boy, and now her baby boy faces the judgment of the ones who know not what they do. Looking at you, I imagine, would be painful to see your face, rub your cheek, and allow for the redemption of the world to be at hand. Lord, may we, like Mary, see both the reality of pain and the necessity of the moment.

Amen.

The prayer today was thoughtfully crafted by our Orlando Student Minister, Johnny Outing.

Take this prayer and meditate on it throughout the rest of the day.
