Global Partnerships: A Conversation with Nairobi Chapel

Amidst all 2020 has held so far, we wanted to provide a way for all of you to check in on our global partners to see how they are doing this year.

Rather than sharing written updates, we thought it would be great for you to hear from them directly! To this end, this week we are kicking off a series of interviews with our global partners.

We begin by hearing from Bishop Oscar Muriu, leader of Nairobi Chapel in Nairobi, Kenya. (You may remember him from previous sermons he’s preached at Summit.) At Chapel, they desire to see people experience life-changing encounters that enable them to live into their God-given purpose. As part of this, they are on pace to fulfill a 10-year commitment to plant 300 churches in Kenya and around the world by the end of this year. Summit has been just one of their many global partners supporting the incredible work they’re doing to bring this vision to fruition.

In this interview, our Lead Pastor John Parker asks Bishop Oscar to share about their ministry as a church community, how they have been navigating COVID-19, and how we can pray for them at this time.

Prayer Requests from Bishop Oscar

  • For marriages to be strengthened and for those experiencing domestic violence to find safety

  • Mental health among teenagers who are experiencing hopelessness from being out of school so long

  • Care for teenagers who have become pregnant this year as there has been a surge

  • For Chapel to care well for their community members experiencing unemployment, that they can rebirth hope in them through their ability to support them well

  • Ability and wisdom for Oscar to lead pastors facing burnout or uncertainty of their ability to continue pastoring amidst the difficulties of COVID-19
